Choosing Your College

All Gallifreyans wishing to become Time Lords are taken to the Untempered Schism and invited to look into the Time Vortex. There they will see their own future and destiny and their reaction marks them as belonging to one of the Chapters or Colleges of Time Lord society.

Players must decide how their character reacted to the Vortex and which College they were assigned to. This in turn helps decide their Praenomen (title) and Cognomen (interogative pronoun: where, what, who or why).

Prydonians (“Wherevites”) are attuned to the Aspect of Dynamism. They are the warriors of the Time Lords. Prydonians are marked by their reaction to approach the Vortex. Prydonians employ laser technology and prefer Praenomina based on rulers (eg Master, War Chief, Rani) and the Cognomen “Where”.

Arcalians (“Whatians”) are attuned to the Aspect of Stasis. They are the craftsmen, healers and tradesmen of the Time Lords and are marked by their reaction to stand their ground in the face of the Vortex. They specialise in bio-kinetic technology and choose Praenomina based on skill or occupation (eg Smith, Fletcher, Mason) and the Cognomen “What”.

Patrexes (“Whovians”) are attuned to the Aspect of Memory. They are the scientists and politicians of the Time Lords and are identified by their urge to retreat from the Vortex and engage with time and space. They prefer sonic technology and choose Praenomina based on education (eg Doctor, Professor, Valeyard) and the Cognomen “Who”.

Ceruleans (“Whyverns”) are attuned to the Aspect of Foresight. They are the mystics of the Time Lords, identified by their tendency to circle the Vortex to view it from other angles. They employ tachyon beam technology and choose Praenomina based on religious titles (eg Monk, Inquisitor) and the Cognomen “Why”.

Starting characters choose their Aspects and possibly their Powers based on their encounter with the Vortex and the College they were assigned to. Colleges also affect the Time Lord’s name and ethical code and the side-effects of Eclipse.
